Bhopal, March 3: To ensure greater safety of students and passengers buses will now have to be equipped with speed governors as per the order of Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday. Also In order to cut down road accidents by 50%, the driving license of drunk drivers would revoke.Home and transport Minister Bhupendra Singh ordered transport department officials to ensure installation of speed governor in all buses by end of March. He directed officials to book bus owner under Section 304 of the IPC if a bus is caught without speed governor after March end.
Singh issued these directives during assessment meeting of the transport department. He also announced that 32-seater buses will not be issued a permit for a long route and would be restricted within city boundaries. These buses will also be used for transportation in rural areas, he added. Stating that permit will be issued for only four months at one go, he warned officials against delaying a decision on permit applications.
Moreover, Singh said that license of drivers under alcohol influence should be canceled. Concerted and effective efforts should be made to reduce deaths in road accident up to 50 percent. He gave directives that period of the temporary permit should be of 4 months maximum. Do not keep permit cases in abeyance.
Also, the rotation scheme for an appointment at RTO check post has been discontinued. Posting at check post will now be done solely on the basis of ability and performance, the minister said. He also asked transport department officials to coordinate with tourism department to create a good transport system.
Last month, 12 minor school students and their bus driver were killed and 35 children injured when their vehicle collided with a lorry near Etah in Uttar Pradesh.
