Mumbai, Mar 30: Amitabh Bachchan, the star of the millennium, has officially unveiled the trailer of Hema Malini starred “Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi” a film which has been penned down by none other than the Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha.
The film is based on the book “Rajpath Se Lok Path Par”, an autobiography of erstwhile Maharani of Gwalior, Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia, who also served as a Member of Parliament multiple times. “I got an invitation for this on my phone and she asked me to come here. She is the Governor of Goa but a great writer too. To honour that, I have come here. Thank you, all. I am privileged to be here”, Bachchan told reporters.
Vijaya Raje Scindia, born Lekha Divyeshwari Devi in 1919, known popularly as the Rajmata of Gwalior, was a prominent Indian political personality. In the days of the British Raj, as the consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jivajirao Scindia, she ranked among the highest royal figures of the land.
In later life, she became a politician of considerable influence and was elected repeatedly to both houses of the Indian parliament. She was also an active member for many decades of the Jana Sangh and later the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The movie features Hema Malini in the role of Vijaya Raje Scindia alongside Vinod Khanna, depicting the former’s journey from one of the highest aristocrats of the land to a well-known political personality. Directed by Gul Bahar Singh, the film was completed and screened in 2008, but its theatrical release was put on hold. It will now release in April this year.
