Chennai, March 31: India's top men's squash player Saurav Ghosal on Thursday swiftly entered into the semi-finals of Montreal Open tournament which is also known as PSA world tour event. Notably, Saurav Ghosal defeated Arturo Salazar of Mexico by 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, 15-13 in the quarterfinal match of the tournament.
Ghoshal is the top seed in the event played aggressively in the first round of the game and maintained the lead later in the third, fourth and fifth set. However, Salazar did a comeback in the second and third set and won both rounds by 9-11, 9-11. However, Ghoshal is considering this tournament as a preparation for the Asian Championship here next month.
Ghosal will take on third-seed Omar Adel Meguid of Egypt in the last four stage. The top-seeded Indian had earlier registered a comfortable first round win over a qualifier, Alfredo Avila of Mexico, 11-2 11-7 11-3.
Notably, Saurav Ghoshal last year finished his campaign after reaching into the quarter final of China open squash. Ghoshal defeated the world no 8 Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia by 11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5. However, later he lost to the sixth seed Karim Abdel Gawad of Egypt.
Interestingly, in 2013 Saurav became the first Indian to reach the Quarterfinals of the World Squash Championship at Manchester, England. In 2004, he also became the first Indian ever to win the coveted British Junior Open Under-19 Squash title, defeating Adel El-Said of Egypt in the final at Sheffield, England.
