Bhopal, March 6: India’s women hockey team on Sunday evening registered a comprehensive win against Belarus in the five-Test Series. Notably, India defeated Belarus by 3-1 and clinched the third successive win at Bhopal. However, the warm-up tournament is being played ahead of their Hockey World League Round 2 event in Canada in April.
After a goalless first quarter, it was Belarus who took the lead when their skipper Ryta Batura scored in the 24th minute through a penalty corner. But the visitors failed to hold on to the lead as India skipper Rani scored two back-to-back field goals in the 35th and 39th minute to put India in command with a 2-1 lead.
Deepika scored India’s third goal in the 42nd minute to take a 3-1 lead while the defenders did well to keep the visitors from scoring in the final quarter to ensure a win. Interestingly, Skipper Rani was the star of the show for India, scoring two back-to-back field goals in the 35th and 39th minute to put India in command after Belarus had taken the surprise lead.
Importantly, India won the first match by 5-1 and second match by 2-1. The fourth match will take place on Monday. However, these win over Belarus will boost the confidence level of team and will let Indian players to give their best in upcoming Hockey World League.
