Imphal, March 8: The High Court of Manipur declared the economic blockade as ‘illegal’ which was caused by United Naga Council. Protesting the government’s decision of creating new districts Naga council imposed the economic blockade on NH-2 and NH-37 which are the essential for serving commodities to state.A bench headed by Justice Chief Justice RR Prasad, Justice N Kotiswar and Justice Kh Nobin passed an order declaring an economic blockade as illegal. It said that "it is now high time to pass an order for getting the economic blockade lifted as the persons or organisation responsible for imposing economic blockade have been violating the fundamental rights of the citizens in order to satisfy their political wish at the cost of miseries of the people which has never been in the interest of the State rather it is proving to be a great obstacle in the progress of the State.”
The High Court directed all authorities of the State Government and the Central Government to ensure smooth vehicular traffic over NH-37 as well as NH-2 immediately.
After the announcement was made to create news seven districts people belonging to Naga council imposed the economic blockade on NH-2 and NH-37 which are the essential for serving commodities to state. Due to the imposition of the blockade, the normal life has affected. The ministry of home affairs has been making repeated efforts to find a way to tackle the issue of the economic blockade which is imposed by the United Naga Council since November.
