New Delhi, March 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the indomitable spirit, determination and dedication of Nari Shakti on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He said, the various initiatives taken by his Government seek to facilitate economic empowerment, self-reliance and social equality as far as Nari Shakti is concerned.In a tweet this morning, PM said, he is glad that the Swachh Bharat Mission is a mass movement, with over 100 districts now Open Defecation Free. PM Modi’s thoughts and vision on women have always been very clear. He is convinced this matter is not about ‘Women Development’ anymore but is of ‘Women-Led Development’ within which a wide spectrum of issues from economic development to social justice is covered.
The deep sense of concern and responsibility PM feels towards the situation of women has directly resulted in the Indian government taking many strides to provide them an equal and equitable platform in every aspect. The primary beneficiaries of the programmes of the government have been the poor, and even among the poor it has been the women.The Prime Minister will address the National Convention of Women Sarpanchs at Gandhinagar in Gujarat today to mark the day. As many as 6,000 women Sarpanchs will be participating in the programme. As part of the event, over 4,000 Women Sarpanchs who have come from different states were taken on tours to villages in 8 districts of the state which include Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara and Kutch.
Also, successful case studies of women led self-help groups, such as Swachh Village campaign, village agriculture cooperatives, dairy farming, handicraft cooperatives of Kutch were showcased to them in order to help them replicate the same in their respective villages.
