Srinagar, March 9: At least two Lashkar terrorists have been eliminated in an encounter by the Indian security forces on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. The slain terrorists have been identified as Jehangir Ganai and Mohammad Shafi alias Sher Gujri and also heavy arms and ammunitions are also recovered.
The encounter, which took place in Padgampora village area in south Kashmir, has now come to an end. Both terrorists belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). However, a civilian was also killed during the encounter. The identity of civilian is yet to be revealed.
According to the sources, security forces launched a search operation after getting a specific input about the presence of an unspecified number of terrorists in Awantipora village of Kashmir's Pulwama district. It was a joint operation led by the troops of 130 Battalion CRPF, 55 Rashtriya Rifles and SOG Pulwama.
Soon after getting the input, security forces cordoned off the area and began the search operation. Seeing to the security forces getting closer to them, the militants hiding in the house started firing at the forces and the encounter began. Security forces retaliated with the heavy firing and eliminated two terrorists. The search operation is still on.
Notably, Ganai was involved in the killing of a local policeman last year. Both terrorists were a resident of Koel village in Pulwama district. Locals said gunshots were heard after security forces sealed all the entry and exit points. Importantly, 141 terrorists were killed in Jammu & Kashmir in the year 2016.
Meanwhile, Indian DGMO spoke to his counterpart in Pakistan and conveyed concern regarding the movement of terrorists along the Line-of-Control. During the conversation, the Pakistani DGMO was also informed about the repatriation of two Pakistani nationals apprehended in Uri. The individuals will be repatriated through Wagah border on March 10.
Since Indian Army have conducted a surgical strike on seven terror launch pads on the intervening night of September 28-29 across the LoC and inflicted significant casualties on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), numerous incidents of cross-border firing and attack on security forces have taken place.
