Thiruvananthapuram, April 1: Today the digital wave has hit so far that we all of us are more prone to a digital threat. Everything is available on digital platform today. Hackers and cyberfreaks could easily get data and hence to keep a tab on unhealthy and criminal activities prevailing in virtual space ‘Cyberdome’ wing was launched on Friday.Cyberdome in collaboration with Indian Institute of Information Technology in Delhi will also trace activities of terrorists and Maoists on social media.
In a bid to prevent atrocities against women and children on social media, including Facebook, the Cyberdome wing of the state police launched a social media lab on Friday at the facility at Technopark. The lab will primarily focus on the creation of fake profiles using pictures of women and children without their consent.
The lab will also keep a tab on porn sites, pedophile pages and sites that promote drug use. All such accounts will be deleted without notice. The unit has started to delete certain pages on Facebook and Whatsapp which promote child pornography, Cyberdome officials said.
Thiruvananthapuram Range Inspector General Manoj Abraham, who is the nodal officer of Cyberdome, said that women and housewives should be aware of the possibility of misuse before uploading their pictures on Facebook and Whatsapp.
