Bhopal, January 27: In a wake to become environment friendly and protect cows, Madhya Pradesh has imposed a total ban on the use, manufacture, import, storage and sale of plastic bags from May 1 in view of its harmful effect on the environment.
The state cabinet today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the decision to impose complete ban on Polythene from May 1. Earlier, in his Republic Day address, Singh had made announcements regarding complete ban on use of polythene bags in state. CM says Use of polythene carry bags and their littering was affecting environment and cleanliness. Besides, cows were dying eating such bags.
Public Relations Department Minister Narottam Mishra said, “The cows eat polythene and plastic bags, which leads to their death. Banning of polythene use will protect their lives. Besides, the plastic and polythene bags are also harmful for the environment”.
Regarding the implementation of the ban, Mishra said that the government has to chalk out of a plan, adding that the government is imposing the ban on plastic carry bags only and no other plastic related materials.
