Washington, April 12: Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group based in north eastern Nigeria killed thousands of Nigerians including at least 200 schoolgirls. To fight Boko Haram Nigerian air force mistakenly bombed a camp in north-east Nigeria which killed 90 innocent people. The Trump Administration now plans to sell military planes to Nigeria to win over Boko Haram terror.
After the first phone conversation between President Muhammadu Buhari and President Donald Trump, it has been indicated that the old deal might be back on. "President Trump assured the Nigerian president of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism," the Nigerian President's office published.
The deal is not a new one. Obama administration was also planning for this $600m deal. As Reuters reported Obama administration planned to sell the Embraer aircraft to Nigeria in May 2016.But the deal was halted in Congress due to the tragic incident involving Nigerian Military.
Brazil's Embraer has made the Super Tucano A-29 aircraft, an agile, propeller-driven plane. It has attack capabilities with reconnaissance and surveillance. A dozen of Tucano A-29 aircraft would be sold to Nigeria. The deal is not yet official due to human right problems. The deal needs approval from Congress and support from human right activists, lawmakers
The extremist religious group has overpowered a large area in north-eastern part of the country declaring caliphate. Though the state has been able to retake most of the areas but the terror remains same.
