New Delhi, Apr 12: After the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on Ramjanmabhumi-Babri Masjid dispute on March 21 asking the concerned parties to find out a solution through dialogue and discussion and a consensus, some social and religious organisations have started working in that direction.
An adhoc committee has been constituted for the purpose to gather the public opinion on the issue from both the communities and even other communities also, and present a broad view to the Supreme Court.
The ‘Ayodhya Varta Committee’ as it is named, has 21 members, according to Maulana Suhaib Qasmi, who is also National President of the Jamat-Ulema-e-Hind. He is one of the key leaders of this committee.
Explaining the objective of the formation of this committee the Maulana said that the members of this committee are not related to any political party. They come from social and religious background.
In an interview to a Hindi daily he said that the Ayodhya issue has widened the gap between the Hindu and Muslim communities over the years. He added that the objective of the committee was to close this gap by striking at an amicable solution to the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue.
He expressed hope that the Muslim community would come out with a solution as it stood up in solidarity on the issue of triple talaq.
He said that the team members have toured 25 states and contacted some two lakh people on this issue. 97 percent of them favoured the solution through dialogue and discussion.
A meeting was recently held at Nizamuddin in Delhi which was attended by Muslims from Deobandi and Barelvi sects coming from Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Kerala, Assam, Gujarat, Jammu-Kashmir, and Tamil Nadu. It was decided that now we will take this issue to the public and efforts will be made to find out a workable solution to this dispute. The first public meeting in this chain of meetings will be held at Bhopal. Muslims religious scholars from Hyderabad, Srinagar, Mumbai, and Chennai would explain the issue to the people and give their opinion.
The Maulana further said that this dispute has been maligning the image of India at global level since decades. This has been the major hurdle in our economic progress also. Nearly 56 Muslim countries of the world including Pakistan and Arab nations who use this dispute to malign India’s image, the Maulana added.
He said that he was with all those organizations and individuals who work for the country and betterment of the society be it RSS or any other. I prefer to work with those who give priority to national interests, social harmony and peace, development and progress. I support the views of Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) which is trying to establish harmonious relations with the RSS and Muslimsin India, Maulana Qasmi said.
He said that the earlier Congress governments did not do anything to resolve this dispute during their tenure. They only terrorised the Muslims using the bogey of RSS and Hindu backlash and used them as their committed vote bank.
Commenting on the role of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Qasmi said that the AIMPLB considered itself as the sole representative of the Muslims in India. It was not interested in the solution of this dispute because it has been its mainstay. They have reaped political benefits for them from this dispute at the cost of the Muslim society. This will not continue any further.
