Mumbai, Apr 14: The coveted “Balasaheb Deoras Samarasta Award” was conferred on Kusumtai Gople from Matang Samaj, Ashok Kamble from Bouddh Samaj and Lalu Kunchikorve representing Kunchikorve samaj at an impressive function organised by My Home India (MHI) here on Thursday.
The function titled “Samajik Samarasta and Child Welfare” was held to commemorate the birth anniversaries of social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Fule and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Savarkar Hall at Shivaji Park, Dadar.
Sunil Deodhar, founder of MHI, Rajya Sabha Member Amar Sable, Dada Idate, Chairman NCDNT, and Adv. Ravindra Lokhande, MHI Trustee were prominently present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Sunil Deodhar said that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s thoughts and work was not only for the Dalit community but the nation as a whole. He said that his thoughts should not be confined to the Dalits but his thoughts should be manifested in the lives of the all the people of India.
Mahatma Phule, who laid the unprecedented foundation of women education, should be accepted by all. We should protect and spread the work that he has done in women empowerment. To create harmony among all the castes by destroying the differences among them, My Home India has started it's activities and would increase in recent future he reiterated.
Scholarships worth Rs11000/- were awarded to ten girl students of various Dalit up communities.
Rajya Sabha Member Amar Sabale praised MHI activities and such programs should be duplicated so that people from Dalit communities could be encouraged and their contribution recognised giving them justice and respect.
Dada Idate said that cemeteries, water, temples should be equally open and available irrespective of caste of the person. Samarasta is a virtue of the heart and not the brain, he said, which will eradicate casteism. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, an architect of the Constitution of India, did a huge favour to the Hindu society by not converting to Islam and Christianity he said.
