Dhaka, April 15: Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree express has now got fully air-conditioned coaches which was inaugurated from Dhaka. The new train has started the new journey on the first day of Bengali New Year.
Bangladesh Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla inaugurated the train on a happy festive day with happy vibes.
As told by Indian envoy they are trying to provide maximum comfort to the passengers between Dhaka and Kolkata and completing the process of customs and immigration as early as possible.
456 seats are now available in the new air conditioned trains and four first class seats.
The frequency of Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express had also been increased from three to four times a week from November 11 last year.
After 1965 the train service between Kolkata and Dhaka was discontinued and then again was started in 2008.In this month during Sheikh Hasina’s India tour the trial run of the Khulna-Kolkata Express was flagged off in presence of PM Narendra Modi and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Both the nations hope that the train journey will be continued more regularly next year.Bangladesh and India relation has reached a new level this year.
