Botad, April 17 : Inaugurating the mega irrigation project of SAUNI Yojna for the Saurashtra region Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “Water is a ‘prasad’ from nature, so use it carefully without wasting a single drop”.
Addressing a mammoth rally after dedicating the phase-1 of Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojna Modi underlined that SAUNI yojana is the evident example of his government’s commitment towards the welfare of farmers. He further added that farmers can do miracles if given water through proper irrigation.
Praising Madhay Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his unique initiative of conservation of forest for river Narmada Modi said, “Shivraj Singh Chouhan has undertaken the Narmada Seva Yatra and is inspiring people to plant trees on the banks of the Narmada. He is ensuring the wellbeing of the Narmada river for the next 100 years through his efforts”. He also mentioned that the people of Kathiawar must realise the important of water.
Underlining the importance of drip irrigation Prime Minister Modi asserted that farmers should effectively use the technique of drip irrigation. He also stated that his government will provided all possible aids to introduce modern technology in the field of agriculture so that the income of farmers can be doubled by 2022.
SAUNI Yojna is a project to divert one million acre feet (MAFT) of floodwater of Narmada to Saurashtra region and fill up 115 reservoirs of Saurashtra through a 1126-kilometre-long network of giant pipelines.
Under this project which is divided into four phases, where government of Gujarat is planning to fill 115 dams of Saurashtra region with overflowing water of Sardar Sarovar Dam across river Narmada through a web of the pipeline network.
