Lucknow, April 17: A special drive has been launched till April 30 for identification and rehabilitation of child laborers in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi government constituted twenty four teams has been for identifying these child laborers and these teams will conduct special and surprise raids across the state.
According to information available, Police teams will be providing protection to the raiding teams and the recovered children. The teams will comprise of magistrate, tehsildaar, nayab tehsildaar, block development officer, assistant block development officer, basic education officer, assistant basic education officers.
The identified child laborers will be presented before the named CWC and district revenue officer within 24 hours. The chief medical officer will similarly have to conduct free medical checkup of such children and issue age certificates within 48-hours.
For identifying the child labourers, the Social Works Department of the Lucknow University conducted a survey in 110 municipal wards of the urban areas and 20 wards and nagar panchayats in the rural areas.
A total of 6,005 child labourers in the age group of six to 14 years were identified through the survery. While 5,180 of them are in the age group of nine to 14 years, 825 child labourers are aged between six to eight.
Meanwhile, the Government of India has amended an Act of 1986 to ban all children up to the age group of 14 years, from doing any work and children between 14-18 years have been banned from working in making explosive material and working in mines.
