Lisbon, April 18: Portuguese capital Lisbon witnessed a plane crash yesterday. The plane crashed in the west vicinity of Lisbon, near a supermarket in Tires. The plane hit a lorry, killing three of its passengers and a lorry driver. From the local report, it has been informed the Swiss pilot also died.
The plane took off from the small Tires airfield, 20 km west of the Lisbon. When the crash happened sky was clear and wind was light and it happened shortly after takeoff. The reason is still not clear.
The truck driver was working to clear his cargo when the explosion hit the lorry outside the loading bay of the supermarket. He was about two kilometers away from the runway. Authorities announced officially the name of the victims after comparing with flight manifesto. Four people were injured who were shopping inside the supermarket. There is an elementary school in the neighborhood.
According to officials, three dozen firefighting vehicles arrived within six minutes. Nine people had to leave their house due to smoke. One 56-year-old woman suffered the panic attack. “The aerodrome immediately activated its emergency plans and in this way activated an internal and external response to this accident.” , a spokesman for Cascais Aerodrome said in a statement.
Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited the accident place at lunchtime but left without making any official statement.
