Chennai, April 19: Today Sasikala and her nephew Dhinakaran were ousted from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam AIADMK. Finance Minister of state D Jayakumar said earlier that AIADMK decided to sideline VK Sasikala and her family to facilitate a merger of all the factions.
On Monday night, an emergency meet was held by the ministers who discussed coming together of rival AIADMK factions led by TTV Dhinakaran and O Panneerselvam. The development came after the Delhi Police booked AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dhinakaran for allegedly trying to bribe an Election Commission official in a failed bid to obtain the coveted "two-leaves" party symbol for his faction.
On this Dhinakaran said that he would have to consult Sasikala before resigning as the deputy general secretary of the party. He said “I have stepped aside in the interest of the party, so there is no question of resigning.” “I have no regrets because I don’t have any expectations,” he added.
Finance minister D Jayakumar said that all the 123 MLAs and ministers are united in welcoming the OPS statement. "We discussed the modalities of strengthening the unity of the party," he said. Also Panneerselvam had said the ouster of Sasikala and Dhinakaran was one of the conditions for merger of the warring factions. The discussions were held during the emergency meeting which sought to come together for the betterment of party.
