Singapore, April 19: After Germany, Singapore had topped the most powerful passport in an international ranking. Now Singapore is tied with Germany as the country with the most powerful passport.According to Arton Capital's Passport Index published on Tuesday, The Germany and Singapore both are on top of Global Passport Power Rank 2017. Before this change, Singapore was on second. Now Singaporeans can travel to 159 countries visa-free whereas the count was 158 last year after Ukraine included Singapore to its visa-on-arrival programme.
Arton Capital in their press release said, “Holders of the Singapore passport can now get visa-on-arrival in Ukraine for up to 15 days upping the Republic's score by one to 159 and Germany still has the edge for visa-free travel”.
German passport holders can travel to 125 countries without a visa and can get visa-on-arrival at 34 countries. Similarly, Singapore passport holders can travel without a visa to 122 countries and visa-on-arrival in 37 countries.
The visa-free score is derived from the number of visa-free and visa-on-arrival travel destinations with the former carrying a higher weightage. Singapore beats Germany with a visa-on-arrival score of 37 to 34.
Arton Capital said, "Singaporeans can rejoice that their passport offers them first-class global mobility". The Passport Index compares the Passports of 193 United Nations member countries and six territories are compared by the Passport Index.
In the Visa Restrictions Index Singapore was fourth this year, another ranking of travel freedom which uses a different way of calculating how powerful a passport is. According to that Singapore passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 173 countries.
Germany also ranks first in the table published by Henley & Partners who has visa-free access to 176 countries out of a possible 218.
