Indore, April 21: Mumbai Indians registered a dominant win over Kings Eleven Punjab in a 2017 Indian Premier League clash at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Thursday. Notably, Mumbai Indians cruised to 8 wicket victory with 27 balls to spare while chasing a formidable total of 198 against Kings Eleven Punjab.
While chasing the mammoth total scored by Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians dashed as they overhauled the target and made 199 for 2 in 15.3 overs. For Mumbai, Joss Buttler 77 of 37, Parthiv Patel 37 of just 18 balls, Nitish Rana 62 of 34 balls and Hardik Pandya 15 of 4 balls, all had a strike rate bettering the 180 mark.
Earlier, sent into bat, Punjab's opener Hashim Amla made unbeaten 104 of 60 balls and helped his side to 198 for 4 in stipulated 20 overs. Shaun Marsh (26) putting on 46 runs before Maxwell took just one over from pacer Mitchell McClenaghan, milking 28 runs, to change the complexion of their innings.
This was the fifth consecutive win for Mumbai Indians in the tournament. , Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said Thursday's 8-wicket win against Kings XI Punjab, will give the team the kind of momentum they needed heading into the business end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.
