New Delhi, April 22: Today is the day when globally Earth Day is celebrated. It is said that the Earth day is celebrated to bring people together in this summer and to think about the planet we live on - and how to save it. Earth Day is celebrated with the aim to encourage people across the world to be more environmentally friendly. What comes first to your mind when asked about Earth? The first word comes is Mother, Globe, World. Secondary thoughts can be life, greenery, mountains, etc. whenever we talk about Earth we think of fresh air, contact with the soil, and companionship with nature.
Do you know the first Earth Day celebrations took place in the year 1970 where two thousand colleges and universities, roughly ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities across the United States participated in the celebration of Earth Day. It now is celebrated in 192 countries, and coordinated by the nonprofit Earth Day Network, chaired by the first Earth Day 1970 organizer Denis Hayes. It is celebrated by more than a billion people every year. Environmental groups have sought to make Earth Day into a day of action to change human behavior and provoke policy changes.
The Earth is still the only planet in the Universe known to harbor life. It’s also the densest planet in the Solar System and the largest of the four terrestrial planets positioned 3rd from the sun. That’s quite an awe-inspiring roster of qualities if you ask us. Since the year 1970 when we started celebrating Earth Day many changes took place. Changes were regarded to population, pollution, and resources. Today the Earth is suffering from various issues directly connecting to the species living in. one of the greatest problems Earth is suffering today is environmental issues as it is increasing with every passing year and causing grave and irreparable damage to the Earth.
The pollution is of five type air, water, soil, noise, and light. Air pollution caused by the injurious smoke emitted by cars, buses, trucks, trains, and factories. The harmful gasses emitted directly in the air can lead to various issues like allergy, breathing issues, asthma, lung cancer, etc. Water pollution is caused by industrial waste products released into lakes, rivers, and other water bodies. Some human throw household waste, ashes, garbage or any other harmful toxins which mixed with water can lead to pollution and harms nature. Water pollution can lead to many disorders in the human body and can even lead to Acid rain.
Even soil, noise and light pollutions are harmful to humans. Soil pollution is caused when chemicals are released by spill or underground storage tank leakage which releases heavy contaminants into the soil can lead to acid rain, polluted water, fertilizers etc. Noise pollution is caused because of loudspeakers, aircraft noise, and noise from vehicles horns which can lead to hearing problems. Light pollution is caused because of using noneco-friendly lights like a light which emits harmful rays especially laser lights which can directly harm the human eyesight.
Pollution can be one of the causes of global warming as it increases Earth’s surface temperature due to the effect of greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth.
So, let us join hands together on this Earth Day and think of Earth to take initiative by own that we will try to safeguard our planet, our motherland.
