Attention! Action against cable operators will be taken for providing TV access without set-top box

New Delhi, April 22: The nodal officers are asked to initiate action against multi-system operators who are still transmitting analog signals on cable TV network in any part of the country under Section 11 of Cable TV Network (Regulation) Act as already the circular was issued for switching to digital.In an advisory issued to States and Union Territories, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said, “Every cable operator is mandated to transmit or retransmit programmes in an encrypted form through the digital addressable system with effect from 1st of April”.

Under Section 2 of the Act, DM, SDM and Police Commissioner are the authorized officers to seize the equipment used for operating cable TV network in case of violation of provisions of Act. The advisory came in the wake of complaints about carriage of analog signals by the MSOs and Cable operators.

Ministry even informed that as per Section 4A of Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act 1995, it is mandatory for every cable operator to transmit or re-transmit programmes of any channel in an encrypted form through a digital addressable system with effect from the date as may be specified/ notified by the Ministry from time to time.
