Chandigarh, April 25: Good news for the people of Punjab, very bad news for terrorists and gangsters who are dreaming of hurting the dignity of a state as Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) soon to be set up permanently.
Notably, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in order to break the nexus between militants and gangsters in the state’s imprisons, have given the permission for setting up an Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), as part of the Intelligence Wing.
Informing about the massive step of Punjab government, a spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the ATS would have the mandate to act both against militant outfits and criminal gangs. In addition to that, the Union Home Minister on a request from Capt. Amarinder Singh has already agreed tentatively to provide two CISF companies.
However, the CIF companies are in exchange of the same number of IRB companies from Punjab to ensure security at the high-security/sensitive jails where hardcore terrorists and gangsters are lodged. These additional companies will remain at the prisons for at least six months, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson further noted that the government is also mulling an effective law, such as the Punjab Control of Organised Criminals Act (PCOCA), to deal effectively with the terror spread by organized criminal gangs, most of which have been operating in the state for the past 5-7 years with strong political patronage.
Interestingly, the setting up of ATS will help Punjab in countering terrorists, gangsters, drug peddlers etc. It will also break the nexus between militants and gangsters in the state’s jails imprisons. Security and safety always remained an important issue because of India-Pakistan border as terrorists try to infiltrate etc.
