Labourers to get 11 employment benefits on this #InternationalLabourDay

New Delhi, May 1: International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day in some countries, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement, socialists, communists or anarchists. It occurs every year on May Day which is May 1st. It is the day to pay tribute to the labourers. In India, the first Labour Day, or May Day, was celebrated in 1923 in Chennai.
The day marks the victory of workers' movement for 8 hours of work. It also aims to pay tribute to workers sacrifices in achieving economic and social rights all over the world.

Embeded ObjectLabour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya chaired International Labour Day function in New Delhi. The minister launched Aadhar based online submission by member using UAN interface; a new scheme of EPSIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) for migrant workers was launched today. Benefits under EPSIC scheme:

1. Medical benefit

2. Sickness benefit

3. Maternity benefit

4. Disablement benefit

5. Dependents’ benefit

6. Unemployment benefit

7. Vocational training

8. Old age medical care

9. Confinement expenses

10. Physical rehabilitation

11. Funeral expenses

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also celebrated the day by tweeting, “Today, on Labour Day we salute the determination & hardwork of countless workers who play a big role in India's progress. Shrameva Jayate!”

Embeded ObjectSeveral Trade Union Organisations observed the day with commitment of welfare of the labourers.  Rallies, symposiums, seminars have been organised at different parts of the country to celebrate the Day.
