Pune, May 10: The Fifth Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan & Expo, being held at Pune from 11-14 May, 2017, will be featuring life-size BrahMos missiles. Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan (BVS) is a flagship program of Vijnana Bharati (ViBha), which is a conglomeration of scientists, artisans, technocrats, traditional innovators, students and people interested in popularization of science.
The Sammelan is held once in two years; this year, Fergusson College, Pune being hosts to various dignitaries such as Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu, Union minister for Science and Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of State for Defence Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Minister for Higher and Technical of the Maharashtra, Vinod Tawde.
Renowned and eminent stalwarts like Prof. M M Sharma, Prof. M S Valiathan, Prof. K. C. Malhotra, Prof. Mayank Vahia and Dr. G Satheesh Reddy are some of the esteemed speakers of the BVS.
BVS & Expo is a scientific movement with swadeshi spirit, aiming to be a vehicle to reach the masses in the pursuit of popularizing science and technology, and to facilitate interactions within common people and scientific fraternity. To date, four BVSs have taken place starting from Bhopal (2007), Indore (2009), Jalandhar (2012) and Panaji (2015). This year’s BVS will be conducted with a theme of: “Confluence of traditional and modern sciences: A new integral vision for development.”
Along with BrahMos missiles, which were brought into the college campus Tuesday afternoon by the representatives of Ministry of Defence, the Sammelan & Expo will also be hosting Bharat 52 Howitzer class guns developed by Kalyani Group under the “Make in India” program. They would be open to public view during the tenure of the Sammelan, from 11 May to 14 May.
