Maharashtra CM calls for blending traditional & modern science

Pune, May 15: Speaking at the valedictory function of 5th Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan here in Pune at the Fergusson College campus on Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called for attaining confluence of traditional and modern sciences to show a new vision of development of our society.

Organized at Pune’s Fergusson College campus the 5th Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan & Expo was host to various artillery and weaponries developed indigenously, such as the Bharat-52 & Garuda-105, developed by Bharat Forge, along with the advanced BrahMos missile and Pinaka rocket launcher.

It also displayed various weapons, submarine missiles, which not only interested the public in huge numbers during the four days of its display, but also inspired many to join the leading defense organization, DRDO.

Alongside the expo, the Sammelan was also a host to various eminent speakers such as Fellow of the Royal Society, Prof. M.M. Sharma, and Security Advisor to Ministry of Defence, G. Satheesh Reddy, and Prof. Mayank Vahia, TIFR scientist, among other prominent speakers. Dignitaries from IUCAA, Pune demonstrated the occurrence of Zero Shadow phenomenon in Pune city on 13th May.

 The valedictory function took place in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of State for Defence, Dr Subhash Bhamre, Mayor of Pune Mukta Tilak along with Vijnana Bharati (ViBha) National President, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Chairman, D. E. Soceity, Pune, Dr. Sharad Kunte, Vice-President (ViBha) Dr. Shekhar Mande, National Secretary (ViBha) Jayant Sahasrabuddhe, and Pune President (ViBha) Dr. Suresh Naik.

 Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Subhash Bhamre praised the organization of a “conference that will bring the knowledge and wisdom buried in our ancient culture in front of people in today’s scientific terms.

CM Fadnavis also spoke on similar lines, highlighting the great influential scientific heritage our nation has obtained. "For 1500 years the great University of Takshshila enlightened students, scientists and intellectuals worldwide. Unlike the western scientific ideology, our ancient intellectuals knew that the motive of Science is development, and not destruction." CM Fadnavis also requested the President of ViBha, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, to organize a yearly state-wide science conference with similar objectives.
