Kohima, May 15: To boost sports, Nagaland will be offered with 100 football grounds under ‘Khelo India’ initiative. Nagaland’s Department of Youth Resources and Sports received a proposal from the Ministry of Youth Resources & Sports of 100 football grounds alongwith 10 indoor and outdoor stadiums each.
During the inaugural function of 3rd Open Penalty Shoot-Out Tournament, Nagaland State Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Khekaho Assumi announced this good news. Assumi said that all the districts will be covered judiciously under this package, adding that each project will cost Rs 10 Lakh. He was appreciative of the Nagaland State Chief Minister, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu for his persistent effort and timely intervention of the Department Of Youth Resources & Sports in getting such projects.
The Detailed Project Report needs to be submitted to the Ministry latest by this month, after which the ministry will sanction the project accordingly within three months. Assumi added that such projects will go a long way in improving the state of sports infrastructure in Nagaland. He also informed that the department has many other schemes, be it grant in aid or capacity building programmes, and to assist even individuals.
Assumi further informed that for this year, the government wants to conduct an All Nagaland Futsal Tournament either in Kohima or Dimapur, with each district sending two teams for the tournament Meanwhile, complimenting the Aizwal FC team for winning the I-League, he said it has transformed the entire football scenario in the North East. He informed that the officials of the Nagaland State Youth Resources & Sports Department, along with few players, will be visiting Aizwal by June to get a glimpse of the Mizoram sports management model.
