New Delhi, May 16: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today slammed the previous UPA government, calling it as 'hopeless party', and that the latter must own up to their crimes. The BJP on Tuesday said this was the day of accountability for the corrupt after government agencies searched Congress leader P Chidambaram’s premises and properties allegedly linked to RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
Union minister Piyush Goyal rejected Chidambaram’s charge that he was being targeted for his columns critical of the government and claimed that the issue was why beneficiaries of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) gave “money to firms owned by his son”. “The former Union finance minister’s columns did not exactly set the Yamuna on fire,” Goyal told reporters.
Goyal also said in its three years in power, the BJP has given an honest, scam-free government, a decisive leader and pro-poor thrust on governance. Goyal also claimed that for the first time ever, India “is the fastest growing large economy” in the world.
Moreover, Congress today alleged that the NDA government has failed on economic front and institutions like RBI have been subjugated to executive. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia also said, incidents of ceasefire violations have increased substantially in Jammu and Kashmir in the last three years. He said there is no clarity on India's foreign policy towards Pakistan.
Notably, The Central Bureau of Investigation conducted raids at the former finance minister P Chidambaram & his son Karti's residences at various locations today in connection with FIPB approval. The Congress has termed it a political vendetta.
