Mumbai, May 17: Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) on Tuesday advanced to finals of Indian Premier League with a commanding win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the first playoff match played at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai. Notably, RPS defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the first qualifier.
Put into the bat first, RPS posted a decent total of 162 runs after losing 4 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 56 off 43 and Manoj Tiwary 58 off 48 revived Pune's innings following a bad start before Dhoni finished the innings on a high note, hammering 40 off 26 balls.
Chasing 163 for a win, Mumbai was restricted to 142 for 9 in 20 overs. Pune's spin bowler Sundar and Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets each to help their side. Parthiv Patel was the only substantial contributor for Mumbai with a fifty at top of the order. Sundar was adjudged as Man of the match and then he dedicated the precious awards to his parents in the post-match ceremony.
Mumbai, who had topped the group stages, remain in the competition and will meet the winner of Wednesday's Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
