New Delhi, May 19 : Coining the term “evergreen revolution ” in the context of agricultural transformation Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that mapping of India’s agricultural strength is the need of today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released a two-part book series on the eminent agricultural scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan. The series is titled - M.S. Swaminathan: The Quest for a world without hunger penned by P. C. Kesavan.
Sharing his personal experience as Gujarat Chief Minister, PM Modi narrated how Prof. Swaminathan helped his government on the project of Soil Health Card. Appreciating the work of Prof. Swaminathan Modi mentioned that Dr Swaminathan is not only a 'Kisan Vaigyanik' but also a 'Krishi Vaigyanik'.
Saluting the contribution of Prof. Swaminathan Prime Minister asserted that, Prof. Swaminathan’s speciality is that his work has been grounded in practical reality. He also appreciated the simplicity of Dr. Swaminathan.
Commenting on the recent developments in the field of agriculture Prime Minister Modi stated that technological intervention in this sector would bring about the best possible results. Elaborating his vision about the target of doubling farm incomes by 2022 Modi asserted that his government will initiate all possible steps to replicate the innovation from “Lab to Land.”
Expressing his satisfaction over the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana PM Modi articulated that the rising support for this policy would increase the risk-taking ability of farmers.
Speaking on this occasion Dr. M.S. Swaminathan thanked the Prime Minister for his words, and appreciated his vision. He emphasized the importance of synergy between technology and public policy. On this occasion Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and serval dignitaries were present.
