Kandla, May 22 : Appreciating the efforts of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for the fast track development of Kandla port, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Kandla has emerged as one of the finest ports in Asia. He further mentioned that efficient ports are essential for the progress of India. PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for 6 projects worth Rs 993 crore linked to the development Kandla port.
Hailing the rich and glorious culture of the Kutch region PM Modi asserted that people of Kutch are well aware of the importance of water. He further congratulated the shipping ministry for the unique idea of Port Museum at Kandla which will unfold the historic journey of ancient Indian Ports. Prime Minister Modi stated that linking of Kandla port with Chabahar port will multiply the growth rate of Kandla Port.
Underlining the importance of ports Prime Minister Modi pointed that if India wants to make a place for itself in global trade, it should have the best of arrangements in the port sector. Emphasising on the use of technology Modi reiterated that the combination of infrastructure and efficiency is vital for the port sector to flourish.
Narrating his personal experience about the 2001 earthquake Modi articulated that the earthquake had devastated the district of Kutch in 2001, but people’s courage made it walk again. He also urged union minister Nitin Gadkari to rename Kandla Port to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kandla port on his centenary year. He also launched the project Stone for construction of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Convention Centre; and the development of the 14th and 16th General Cargo Berth.
Speaking on this occasion Union Minister of Surface transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari announced that government will successfully implement all the mega projects under the flagship scheme of Sagarmala which will change the dynamics of shipping and logistic sector of the country. He further added that port-led development would have a positive impact on the State of Gujarat, and would lead to job creation as well.
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi on this occasion Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani spoke of the rich maritime traditions of the State, and added that the spirit continues even today. On this occasion Senior Union ministers and officials of Shipping ministry were present.
Following his address, Prime Minister Modi dedicated to the nation the Narmada water pumping station at Kutch's Bhachau. The pumping station has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 148 crore. It will lift water 18-metre high and flow it in the KBC section flowing towards Anjar and Mandvi.
