Vadodara, May 26: As soon as the Narendra Modi took the charge of the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the development of state was flooded immensely. But, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat and current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi took the initiative to electrify the each and every village of the state. Due to which Gujarat now has its every nook and corner connected to electricity.
However, it took 16 years to bring electricity in each and every part of Gujarat. The last village of Gujarat which was electrified is Shiyal Bet, an island located off Pipavav port in Amreli district near Vadodara. Interestingly, Shiyal Bet has got electricity for the first time since Independence in the year 2016 after which the state achieved electricity in each and every corner.
Located around 1.5 km away from Pipavav port in Amreli, state-run Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) is supplying power to the island through a 6-km undersea cable through Chanch island in neighboring Bhavnagar district. Shiyal Bet is a small island which consists of a population of around 6,000, surrounded by the Arabian Sea from all corners.
However, after taking the charge as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi took the initiative to brighten each and every village of the country with electrification under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY). The initiative transformed into a massive movement and over 14500 villages are electrified in just three years. A few years earlier, over 18000 villages in India were surviving in dark as there was no electricity but PM Modi and his ministry are clearing this huge backlog.
Under DDUGJY till date. Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Jammu & Kashmir were the major states where electrification is done.
