Oval, May 29: India registered a comprehensive win over New Zealand in the first warm-up match played on Sunday at Oval. India won their first warm-up match against New Zealand at the Oval by 45 runs due to D/L method as the rain stopped play. However, it is a positive start for India just before Champions Trophy.

Replying to New Zealand's low score of just 189 runs, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for India. New Zealand struck early with the wicket of Rahane, but Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli steadied the innings for India and took the team forward in a run-chase.

Before the rain interrupted the match, Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten half century (52*) as he looked in good form while MS Dhoni supported him with 17 not-out. Earlier, Dhawan scored a decent 40 runs in 59 balls before getting out.

Sent into the bat first, New Zealand scored just 189 runs before getting all out. Ronchi was the only batsman who could hold his innings for long against Indian bowling attack and score 66 runs before he was departed by Jadeja. Doing a comeback, strike bowler Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets and Bhubaneshwar also picked up 3 wickets.

Defending champions India will be happy with their all-round performance as they take on Bangladesh next on May 30 for their second and final warm-up match before the tournament proper. India will take on Pakistan in their first match in Champions Trophy.
