‘A death in the Gunj’ bags the Best Director honour for Konkona Sen Sharma at New York Film Festival

New Delhi, May 31: In between Baahubali 2 and Dangal which are the major films wooing the audience in China right now have somehow receded the chances of other good films to come up. A film that has recently won a lot of critical appreciation at the International film competitions around the world is ‘A death in the Gunj’. Not many of us know that it is made by the debutante Director Konkona Sen Sharma who is also a known actress in the industry. Moreover, the movie has already banked one award; Konkona received the ‘Best Director’ honour at the New York Indian Film Festival.

The not-so-hyped actress Konkona Sen Sharma’s ‘A death in the Gunj’ has been loved at the Toronto Film Festival and Busan Film Festival. The film has already been screened there and has received a positive response by the audience. Since the film is largely in English, the makers are looking at a positive response from the metros in India. Konkona said, "It's true that the film is largely in English, there is some Hindi and some Bengali as well. I'm sure people in cities will relate to it, I agree it's a niche film." She also further accepted the fact that she might direct more films if the right script comes her way.

A Death In The Gunj is set in the town of McCluskieganj (now in Jharkhand, India) during the winter of 1979. An uneventful family holiday takes a twist when the guests start playing with spirits. The holiday ends in an implosion, resulting in an unavoidable event. The film stars Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Vikrant Massey, Tillotoma Shome, Tanuja and the late Om Puri.

The film will be released here on this coming Friday, June 2.
