New Delhi, May 5 : After the successful take-off of much awaited South Asia Satellite, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that, the satellite will greatly enhance the process of development in the South Asian region.
Describing the launch of Satellite as a “historic moment” PM Modi asserted that this technological intervention will enhance and fine tune the engagement among the countries of the South Asian region.
Addressing a joint function through video conferencing, Modi underlined that this is a first of its kind project in South Asia which will help in effective communication, better governance, banking, education in remote areas and predicting weather.
During his address Prime Minister congratulated all the south Asian countries for their unshakable resolve and valuable support for the mega project. “We are a united family of South Asian countries, united in our pursuit of peace, progress & prosperity of our region & the entire humankind,” said Prime Minister.
Expressing gratitude towards fellow leaders from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka PM Modi mentioned that this joint venture of South Asian countries is a sign of unshakeable resolve to place the needs of people in the forefront. “we have started a journey to build the most advanced frontier of our partnership” said Modi.
After coming to power in May 2014, PM Modi had asked ISRO scientists to develop a satellite that can be dedicated to neighbouring countries as a "gift from India."
Sharing his thoughts on this occasion Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that the gap between talk and action was bridged, the imperative of regional cooperation changed to the reality.
On this extraordinary achievement Maldives President Abdulla Yameen stated that the launching of South Asia Satellite signifies India's neighbourhood first policy.
Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal articulated that, this Satellite will be helpful to provide enhanced communication services in mountain & hilly regions of Nepal.
On this occasion Sri Lankan President M Sirisena said that, the launch signifies intent to build cordial relations &vision for cooperation with SAARC countries.
Expressing his happiness Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay said, “The launch of this satellite will boost regional cooperation & bring about common progress of our region.”
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I congratulate government of India. Hope this will open a new horizon of cooperation in the region.” Betterment of our people can happen through fruitful engagement she added.
