Mohali, May 8: Gujarat Lions on Sunday registered commanding win over Kings XI Punjab in an Indian Premier League game at Mohali. Notably, Lions beat Kings Eleven Punjab by six wickets in Mohali.
However, Dwayne Smith in this match turned out to be the architect of the victory for Gujarat with a whirlwind 74 off just 39 deliveries to get Gujarat off to a flier while chasing a challenging 190 for a win. Dinesh Karthik's knock of 35 not out off 23 balls played a short but very important role towards the end as Gujarat Lions reached 192 for four in 19.4 overs.
Earlier, put into bat, Hashim Amla (104) and Shaun Marsh (58) helped Kings XI Punjab post 189 for 3 in 20 overs. This was Amla's second century in the current edition of the tournament. Amla, thus, became the second batsman after Virat Kohli to register two centuries in a single IPL season.
In another match, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in the IPL cricket match played at Bengaluru yesterday. Chasing a modest 159-run target, Kolkata romped home in 15.1 overs.
The chase was set by Sunil Narine's whirlwind knock of 54 that came off 17 balls with six fours and four sixes. Narine reached his fifty off 15 balls equaling the record made by his teammate Yusuf Pathan in the 2014 edition. Narine also claimed 2 wickets.
