New Delhi, May 8: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to the Centre and Delhi government regarding chemical gas leak from the Tughlaqabad container depot that affected over 450 schoolchildren on Saturday.
A bench, headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar, also asked Container Corporation of India why its Tughlaqabad unit be not shifted to some other place. It also appointed advocate Sanjay Upadhayay as amicus curiae in the matter.
The tribunal took suo motu note of the matter after some lawyers informed the bench about the gas spill. Most of the students, who complained of irritation in the eyes and breathlessness, were discharged after a few hours but a few had to be kept under observation in ICUs.
The Delhi Government has asked the District Magistrate to investigate the matter. A five-member team of doctors was constituted to take stock of the situation. Delhi Police had registered an FIR in the matter under various sections of IPC and the Environment (Protection) Act.
