CAPF U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament 2017 concludes

Kohima, May 9: The State level Under-19 CAPF Football Talent Hunt Tournament for Boys and Girls which is a unique taken by the government to discover the new talents concluded on Monday concluded in Kohima. The event was organized by Army’s Assam Rifles which concluded positively.

Notably, the talent hunt was initiated for the first time in regard to the upcoming under-17 FIFA World Cup so that the Indian team would make an impactful presence in the tournament.  Chief minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM as guest of honour. 

State Sports Academy, Nagaland and Sweet Poison Club, IG Academy team lifted the title in boy’ and girls category respectively. In the finals, State Sports Academy, Nagaland defeated State Boys Hostel by a margin of 2-0 whereas Sweet Poison Club, IG, Academy defeated Girls Sports Hostel by a margin of 3-0.

Sinlo and Akhala Jamir were named the best players and awarded a certificate along with cash prize.  Sedevituo and Sezorelu were adjudged as the best goalkeepers. The winner teams took home a cash award of Rs. 50,000 each while runner-up teams were awarded Rs. 30,000 each. The third best team was nominated as hardliner team and awarded a sum of Rs. 20,000 as prize money.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr. Shurhozielie Liezetsu expressed confident that such tournament will boost the efforts to promote football in the country. Lauding the recent victory of the young Aizawl Clubs in the first-League football tournament, Dr. Shurhozielie said this should be an encouragement to the football players of the Northeast Region.

The chief Minister also commended the Assam Rifles for doing humanitarian activities as well as maintaining peace and security in the state.

Speaking on the sidelines of the tournament, Director General Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan expressed appreciation for the support given by the state government. He said that the selected players from the State will participate in the upcoming tournament scheduled to be held in Shillong in the month of June.

Importantly, a total of 16 teams, eight boy’s team and eight girl’s team, participated in the tournament. In the finals today, State Sports Academy Dimapur won the match beating the State Boys Hostel Dimapur by two goals to Nil. While in the Girls Category, Sweet Poison Club of IG Academy defeated Girls Sports Hostel Dimapur with three goals to Nil.
