New Delhi, June 12: As soon as the election committee announced the schedule of Presidential election which to be held on 17th July, all the political parties had boosted their meetings, conferences etc to select their candidates for President. The Country’s ruling party Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Monday formed a special three-member committee for consultations with other political parties for the presidential election.
Notably, the three members of the committee are Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, and Venkaiah Naidu. The three-member panel will be involved in discussing possible candidates for President. However, it is also charged to clear out several issues regarding 17 Presidential elections with opposition political parties as well.
Till now BJP has not revealed its Presidential candidate. According to the official spokesperson of BJP, it will begin the process of finalizing the name of its Presidential nominee soon. However, several names were also rumoured from BJP side were RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Amitabh Bachchan, Lal Krishna Advani, Draupadi Murmu and many others.
On the other side, Congress is trying hard to bring Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party together on the common platform ahead of the presidential poll to seek more votes and for their candidates. Several names were rumoured from Opposition side were former West Bengal Governor and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopal Krishna Gandhi, former JD(U) President Yadav, Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar and NCP chief Sharad Pawar. However, Sharad Pawar ruled himself out of the race earlier.
The Election Commission (EC) June 7 announced the presidential poll would be held on July 17. The last date for filing of nomination is June 28 and the counting will take place in Delhi on July 20.
