Mumbai soon to get blessed with rains in full swing: IMD

New Delhi, June 12: Favorable monsoon conditions developing in several parts of the country says India Meteorological Department, as the Southwest monsoon has further advanced into Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal's coastal states.

MeT informed that various states like Odisha, Telangana, remaining parts of Tripura and Assam and Meghalaya and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim are developing favorable monsoon conditions during next 24 or 48 hours.

Odisha has already warned for heavy rains and gusty surface winds in several parts today. Extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Coastal Karnataka and Gangetic West Bengal.

Remote areas like Kerala, Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Vidharbha is expected to experience heavy rainfall.

With the rainfall getting heavier each day, Mumbaikars are enjoying this monsoon feel. While Mumbai was limited with light and moderate now they are blessed with rains in full swing over the city.

Many areas of this city of dreams were recorded with heavy rainfall in last 24 hours. The Santa Cruz Observatory recorded a whopping 71 mm of rainfall, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, while the Colaba observatory recorded a whopping 91 mm of rain.

Mumbaikars were enjoying the monsoon throughout the Sunday. It was so much that rainfall activity had begun during the early morning hours giving the residents another reason to celebrate the last day of the weekend and giving them some respite from the upcoming Monday blues.

These weather conditions are attributed to the presence of a trough along the West Coast running from Coastal Maharashtra up to the Kerala region. Some cities recording three-digit rainfall while some other parts of the West Coast have also witnessed a few heavy spells of rain.

Even Mahabaleshwar was also witnessed with Southwest Monsoon on Sunday. As Southwest Monsoon still remains a few steps away, Mumbai is yet to see those Monsoon showers. In next 24 to 48 hours, the conditions are highly favorable for the Monsoon to begin in Mumbai. The rainfall activity also has become heavy over Mumbai and the intensity will only increase in the coming days paving way for good Monsoon showers.
