Chennai, June 12: On Sunday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi) faction head, O Panneerselvam announced about dissolving the seven-member committee which was formed on April 21 to hold the merger talks with the opponent AIADMK (Amma) faction headed by K Panaliswami.
Addressing a public meeting at suburban Thiruverkadu, Panneerselvam said there was no need for such a committee since people do not want a merger of both factions. A cheer went up from the cadre after he made the announcement. The people of Tamil Nadu do not desire such merger initiatives. We have the support of the people and they want us to fight alone. So, I have disbanded the committee formed to negotiate merger talks with immediate effect
Presently the OPS camp, which presently has 12 MPs and 11 legislators, pointed out that the EPS faction has not honored their conditions for a merger. OPS also reiterated the demand for CBI probe in the mysterious death of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. "EPS camp hasn't met our two key demands: to expel Sasikala and Dinakaran. They've not sought CBI probe into Jayalalithaa's death," said Rajya Sabha lawmaker V Maitreyan, who was a member of the now dissolved committee.
