Jakarta, June 14: Rio Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu keeping up her good form stormed into the pre-quarter round the Indonesia Open after registering a commanding win over World No. 20 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand by 21-12 21-19.
The Tournament’s fourth-seeded PV Sindhu started the match strongly and won the first game with remarkable ease.The second game was more competitive with the Thai shuttler playing a number of good shots, but Sindhu brushed aside the competition and took the game, winning the match 21-12, 21-19 in 33 minutes.
Sindhu will face a tougher opponent in USA’s Beiwen Zhang in the next round, who is ranked No.10 in the world. Olympics silver medallist Sindhu has won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold and India Super Series this season.
Earlier in the day, three-time world champion Saina Nehwal also entered into pre-quarter round after defeating Thailand's world No. 8 Ratchanok Intanon by 17-21, 21-18, 21-12. On the other side, the mixed doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy exited the tournament after losing 12-21, 9-21 in the first round to Indonesia's Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini.
India’s rising men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty registered a comprehensive win to enter the main draw of the Indonesia Open Superseries Premier badminton. Satwik and Chirag defeated Indonesian pair of Altof Barriq and Reinard Dhanriano 22-20, 21-9 in 30 minutes in the first qualifying match.
