Jakarta, June 14: After Saina and Sindhu, HS Prannoy on Wednesday entered into the pre-quarter round of Indonesia Open in the opening match which was played at Jakarta. Notably, Prannoy defeated World No. 20 Anthony Sinisuka by 21-13, 21-18. While, Prannoy’s compatriot Sai Praneeth had to suffer a loss in the first round against World No. 1 by 14-21, 18-21.
Prannoy who just recovered from injury played beautifully in the whole match and earned useful breakpoints at every interval. Prannoy got the points easily and won consecutive sets which later became the decider of the game. Prannoy will take on top seed and three times Olympic Silver medalist Lee Chong Wei in Pre-quarter finals round.
Meanwhile, Sai Praneeth had a hard fought game but wasn’t able to gain the momentum in both the sets and lost to World No. 1 by 14-21, 18-21. Earlier in the day, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal keeping up their good form won the first round against their opponents and entered into pre-quarter rounds of Indonesian Open.
On the other side, the mixed doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy exited the tournament after losing 12-21, 9-21 in the first round to Indonesia's Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini.
However, India’s rising men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty registered a comprehensive win to enter the main draw of the Indonesia Open Superseries Premier badminton. Satwik and Chirag defeated Indonesian pair of Altof Barriq and Reinard Dhanriano 22-20, 21-9 in 30 minutes in the first qualifying match.
