Jakarta, June 17: India’s sensational badminton player Kidambi Srikanth on Saturday stormed into the finals of men's singles at the Indonesia Open. Srikanth defeated World No. 1 Son Wan Ho of Japan by 21-15, 14-21, 24-22. However, HS Prannoy was bowed out of the tournament after reaching semi-finals.
It was a hard fought win for Kidambi and more of thrilling as World No. 1 Son Wan Ho was not holding back in the match and made a comeback after Indian earned points. Kidambi registered an easy win over his Japanese opponent by 21-15. But Son Wan Ho made a strong comeback in the second set didn’t give any chance for Indian to fight back and won by 21-14.
The third set was a thrilling one as both the opponents were in the top form and not ready to give up. Both the opponents were earning points at every interval. The score was leveled by 22-22 when Srikanth stunned Japanese by 2 points back to back and registered win by 24-22.
Earlier in the day, Indian shuttler HS Prannoy's campaign in the Indonesia Open Super Series Badminton Tournament came to an end after he went down to Japan's Kazumasa Sakai in a thrilling semi-final contest. Prannoy lost 21-17, 26-28, 18-21 in a grueling last-four contest that lasted for one hour and sixteen minutes.
