Police must crackdown on organized forced begging in Capital: Delhi LG

New Delhi, June 17: Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal on Friday stating his resolve of zero compromise on safety of women and children in Delhi, LG directed Delhi Police to take stringent measures against the organized gangs and keep up its vigil in partnership with the community.

While chairing high level meeting at Raj Niwas to review the issue of Missing Children and crime of Human Trafficking in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor stressed upon the need for a crackdown on the organized gangs involved in human trafficking and begging.

He directed Police to conduct joint drives with social welfare department and explore the possibility of skill development in convergence with existing Govt. schemes, for rehabilitation of the children rescued from begging mafia and taken under their care at Beggars’ homes.

It was also stressed by Lt. Governor to sensitize the vulnerable groups, areas, potential victims through pamphlets, video clips, etc. about the sufferings of youth who get strayed away from the mainstream.

Lt. Governor emphasised on effective monitoring on Whatsapp, Facebook Pages and other social media avenues about the illegal massage parlours, increased surveillance in red light areas, railway stations and ISBT and generating awareness among children/students in academic institutions through pamphlets, messages etc.

Meanwhile, Special CP (Crime), Delhi Police further apprised Lt. Governor that a higher recovery of drugs and fire-arms has been made this year so far besides an overall decline in the number of heinous crime by 31% during the current year as compared to the same period in the previous year.
