Taiwan, June 19: Indian contingent showing a brilliant all round performance at 2017 Asian Junior Wrestling Championships in Taiwan bagged a total of ten medals including two gold, while 4 silver and 4 bronze. Pooja Gehlot and Shravan made Indians proud after winning gold medals each in different categories.
Notably, India bagged seven medals including during the first two days of the championship while on the last day Indian wrestlers clinched three medals including 1 gold. On the last day of the tournament, Sharvan bagged the gold medal in men's 60kg freestyle category, beating Yones Aliakbar Emamichoghaei of Iran 9-2 in the final. However, Deepak Punia claimed the silver medal in the 84kg freestyle, while Karan settled for a bronze in 66kg freestyle.
Earlier, Pooja Gehlot created a history by beating a tough opponent from Japan (Chisaki) by 6-5 in a nail biting contest to bag the only Gold for India. Manju Kumari bagged India’s third medal in Women’s freestyle category after she defeated Kyrgyzstan's opponent by technical superiority (10-0). Unfortunately, another wrestler in Girl’s Freestyle final Sonu had to face defeat from her Chinese opponent by 4-14 in 44 kg category & had to settle for a silver medal only.
Satish in boys 120 KG Greco-Roman category had to settle for Silver too as he couldn’t overcome the challenge of Hossein from Iran and had to face defeat by 3-6. While Manish in 55 kg category surpasses his opponent from Japan by 7-5 in a close and intense match to win another Bronze for India. Reshma Anil Mane in 63 kg women category won bronze by defeating Seeun Choi.
