Mumbai, June 20: Bollywood actress, Vidya Balan stressed about the importance of films in creating awareness. She has extended her support to the campaign ‘Bus Ab Bahut Hogaya-Enough is Enough’ led by Farhan Akhtar’s social campaign MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination).
“Nobody wants to be preached to, so if we can convey the same message through entertainment, I believe it will be more acceptable, especially to the youth. If we try and incorporate some messages in the films we do, I think we could end up playing an important role in spreading awareness," Vidya said.
“Yes and no. We are progressing in all aspects, but our thinking needs to change. Why is it that a girl child is still a curse and a boy is a boon for some families? Why is it that in today’s world, a man is paid and treated better than a woman? Why are we still so regressive and patriarchal?”
“Through this campaign, we are trying to create awareness and seek to eliminate violence against females. We are telling our girls that they are equal to boys and I think it’s important to teach our boys that they are equal to women too. It is about time we started talking about this issue and help bring a change in society,” she added firmly.
