Lucknow, June 20: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has greeted Bihar governor Ramnath Kovind for being named the candidate of the NDA for the post of the president of India. He appealed to the political parties in the state to rise above political considerations and wholeheartedly support the candidature of Kovind.
While speaking at a press conference on Kovind being named the NDA candidate for presidency Chief Minister expresses happiness at the decision of the party and said the fact that the party gave priority to the Dalit community in the selection process was a matter of great satisfaction.
He further said that this decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP Parliamentary Board was a great honor for the 22 crore people of Uttar Pradesh and the Dalit community.
“Kovind has had a long and illustrious public life, the Chief Minister pointed out while adding that his rural background would also bring honor to the people living in the countryside”, he added.
Yogi further stated that while the decision has honoured the Dalit community, the decision taken by PM Modi has also invigorated the social awareness even further.
Meanwhile, Governor of Bihar Ramnath Kovind has been confirmed as NDA's official candidate for the presidential elections. BJP President Amit Shah informed of the decision after the party meeting in BJP headquarters. Kovind is an ex-Supreme Court Lawyer and a former preisdent of BJP dalit morcha.
Earlier, PM has reached out to Opposition leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to seek support for Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. TRS of Telangana has extended support for BJP's Presidential nominee. Sonia will discuss the matter with allies very soon. Shiv Sena will announce its decision by today evening.
