#AustralianOpen: Praneeth, Sindhu, Srikanth cruises into semi-finals

Sydney, June 22: Keeping up their good form, Indian star shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth, B Sai Praneeth, PV Sindhu on Thursday bowed in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Australian Open Superseries after defeating their respective opponents in respective categories.


Interestingly, Praneeth and Srikanth by winning their respective games have now set up a quarterfinal clash at the tournament to enter into semis. Kidambi Srikanth registered a hard fought victory over World No.1 South Korea’s Son Wan-ho by 15-21, 21-13, 21-13 in a match that lasted for less than 1 hour at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

Srikanth lost the first game but made a strong came back from to win the next two sets in his own identical fashion. This was Srikanth’s second consecutive victory against Son after defeating the World No.1 last week in Indonesia as well. Overall, the head-to-head now stands at 4-all.

Meanwhile, B Sai Praneeth defeated World No.1 Yuxiang Huang of China by 21-15, 18-21, 21-13 in a match that lasted for 1 hour and five minutes. Praneeth getting a better start in the match won the first set easily and later lost the second round. In a decider, Praneeth improved his game and defeated  Yuxiang Huang by 21-13.

On the other side, fifth seed PV Sindhu also cruised into semifinals after registering a comprehensive victory over China’s Chen Xiaoxin by 21-13, 21-18. Saina Nehwal is also scheduled to play her women’s singles second-round match later in the day.
