Darjeeling, June 22: The fire in Darjeeling seems to be burning for a long time. Instigating a greater conflict, the Darjeeling police have booked Bimal Gurung and his wife Asha for the death of three Gorkha Janamukti Morcha activists. The FIR is regarding the death of 3 Morcha supporters in Singmari. Along with murder, Police has also filed a case of conspiracy against Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader and his wife. Morcha has been claiming since the accident that the bullet firing of police is responsible for their death.
After the beginning of the conflict, Hill went under most violent situation on Saturday. Darjeeling and vicinity saw episodic clashes of Morcha supporters and Police. On that day only, the three Morcha supporters lost their lives. Taking benefit of the incident, Morcha supporters tried to make their movement stronger.
"Police did not fire, but people were killed. GJM cadres were killed when bullets were fired from their side. At least seven police personnel sustained injuries," a Police official said local media. GJM leader Binay Tamang denied this claim and said Police should FIR against them who instructed fire. Tourism Minister Goutam Deb said that juidicary is walking in right direction. If the Morcha supporters want they could go to Court.
Amidst all the turmoil, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has sent a letter to Home Minister Rajnath Singh supporting Gorkhaland. “The fulfillment of the constitutional demand of the people in the Darjeeling Hills which is deeply connected with national identities of the Indian Gorkhas will provide long-awaited justice to their patriotism, which has been second to none. Creation of Gorkhland state will also restore permanent peace and prosperity of the region and Sikkim will be hugly benifited as her development tempo can be maintained undisturbed.”, he wrote in the letter.
