Maharashtra: Contribute a day’s salary to help farmers and their families

Mumbai, June 23: Farmers of Maharashtra need the hand of support, the hope of earning more income and the pillar of financial backup. On Thursday Maharashtra government appealed to employees in order to contribute in helping farmers and their families in the suicide -prone regions.

The government in its notification has urged the government employees to contribute a day's salary to provide financial assistance to families of farmers. Officials, including IAS, IPS and Forest officers, and the workers of the state government, semi-government bodies, and corporations were asked to contribute a day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief fund in July to help families of farmers. Especially to the farmers of Vidarbha region and Marathwada region which are termed as suicide belts as large have been committing suicide hailing from that part.

The notification stated that the money would also be used for education purposes of farmers' children. Besides Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues, Ministers of state, MLAs and MLCs have also been asked to contribute if they are willing to.
